Professionals from leading companies across the Life Sciences sector gathered for a new edition of Ambit Meets: Tech trends & Compliance in Life Science—the annual event organized by Ambit Iberia to share experiences, analyze emerging trends, and discuss the core challenges that will shape the industry’s future.
The event brought together key stakeholders from diverse departments at a pivotal moment for the sector. Digital transformation, the rise of artificial intelligence, and the evolving European regulatory framework dominated discussions, centered on a shared objective: discovering how to innovate while maintaining the high standards of quality, traceability, and compliance demanded by the industry.
Throughout the meeting, attendees emphasized the strategic importance of the pharmaceutical sector as a primary driver of industrial growth and innovation in Spain and Europe. Discussions highlighted the critical need to attract and nurture talent capable of leading the next phase of technological evolution.
A key highlight of the day was the panel discussion titled "Operative Challenges and Scaling in the Pharma Industry," featuring Juan Ignacio Alonso (Andersen), Jorge Castro (Applus+ Laboratories), Amaia Eguiazabal (EasyVista), Gerardo Barbosa (Multiplica), Marc Ramoneda (Appliant), and Unai Sancho (Agilent Technologies). Panelists exchanged real-world insights on business growth, process digitalization, operational efficiency, and change management within organizations balancing rapid innovation against strict regulatory requirements.
Providing a practical operational perspective, Cinfa presented a real-world case study focused on the automation of its manufacturing facility in Pamplona. The company outlined its experience implementing new industrial technologies, the hurdles faced along the way, and the measurable impact automation is delivering regarding factory efficiency and production capacity.
Artificial intelligence also took center stage. The panel "AI in Healthcare & Pharma: From Potential to Regulatory Control" brought together Alfred Opisso (Roche), Francesc Paradell (Meribel Pharma), Christian Gay (Aizon), and Oriol Valls (Merck). The debate examined both the vast potential of AI to streamline operations and enhance decision-making, as well as the associated hurdles—such as model validation, data governance, human oversight, and compliance with emerging European regulatory frameworks.
In addition to the panel sessions, attendees took part in a collaborative workshop where they shared their organizations' current priorities, roadblocks, and expectations regarding digital transformation. The goal was to build a collective, realistic baseline of the sector's current maturity—identifying both high-consensus initiatives and persistent operational bottlenecks.
A recurring takeaway echoed throughout the day: while technology will continue to play an indispensable role in the evolution of the pharmaceutical industry, success hinges on an organization's ability to integrate it responsibly, securely, and in full alignment with the sector's core quality principles.
